How we move your car from the UK to Nice
Every Nice shipment begins with a collection from a mainland UK address you nominate — most commonly a private garage, a family residence or a specialist storage facility. At the kerbside, the driver photographs every panel, records the fuel level and mileage and walks the documentation with you, before the car is loaded for whichever routing gets it to the Promenade on time.
From collection, the car travels in a single-vehicle enclosed transporter. Two routings are available, and we recommend one based on the vehicle, the urgency and the season. The road route — Eurotunnel from Folkestone, then south through France via Reims, Lyon and Aix-en-Provence before turning east on the A8 to Nice — covers the distance in roughly 12 hours of driving from Calais, completed in two days with the regulatory rest periods. It suits supercars, show-spec collector cars and any vehicle a client needs on the Côte d’Azur quickly. The sea route — Southampton or Felixstowe to Marseille followed by a 2.5-hour onward enclosed haul east on the A8 — runs three to five days and suits multi-vehicle consignments, household-with-car moves and clients whose arrival date is flexible.
Hand-over takes place at the address of your choice: a seafront apartment on the Promenade des Anglais, a villa in Cimiez or Mont Boron, the forecourt of the Negresco or a permitted bay in Vieux Nice. The narrow lanes of the Old Town and the parking restrictions on the Promenade need planning in advance, which we arrange before the transporter reaches the city. We do not ask a client to collect a car from a port.

Airport-coordinated arrival
Nice Côte d’Azur (NCE) is the third-busiest airport in France after Paris-CDG and Paris-Orly, and the gateway for the bulk of Côte d’Azur arrivals. A share of our Nice clients fly in privately into Cannes-Mandelieu or NCE, or on a scheduled service into NCE, and want the car at the residence when they land.
You share the flight number and the expected landing time at the point of booking. We work backwards from there: a customs-cleared release in hand the day before, the transporter staged at a discreet point in the city overnight, the driver moving to your address as you land. The vehicle is on the forecourt or in the garage within the window you specify, the hand-over inspection is completed in your presence, and the keys change hands as planned.
The same applies when you are not arriving by air. A representative, concierge or property manager can sign for the car on your behalf, with the hand-over pack emailed in parallel.
Nice arrival, customs and paperwork
We lodge the import declaration wherever the car enters the EU: Marseille for the sea route, Calais for the road route, and the cleared release follows it east to Nice, so nothing waits on paperwork once it reaches the Riviera.
For how the import declaration, temporary admission, permanent import and Transfer of Residence relief work across our European routes, see our European customs guide.
Whether that’s a seafront apartment on the Promenade, a villa in Cimiez or a permitted bay in Vieux Nice, hand-over comes with the same paperwork: the cleared customs release, the bill of lading, the pre-shipment inspection record with photographs and a hand-over inspection mirroring the UK one, plus the full pack emailed alongside it. That’s worth keeping on file if the car ends up staying past the ninety-day Schengen window, or is re-exported under temporary admission.
Nice as a Côte d’Azur hub
Unlike Saint-Tropez, which is a summer destination, Nice is a year-round residential city. That changes the shape of the shipping work. We move cars in October as readily as in July, and a steady stream of clients use a Nice address as the operational base for the entire coast — driving on themselves to Monaco 30 minutes east, Cannes 45 minutes west, Antibes, Cap Ferrat, Èze and Beaulieu.
If your final destination is Monaco or Cannes and you prefer the car delivered directly there, we are equally happy to do that — the dedicated pages set out the local route detail. If the destination is Saint-Tropez for the summer, the same enclosed haulage continues west along the coast.
