Routing through mainland Spain to Ibiza Town
Every Ibiza shipment begins with a UK collection, where the driver completes a pre-shipment inspection: every panel photographed, fuel level and mileage recorded, documentation walked through with you before the vehicle is loaded.
The car then travels by enclosed transporter, air-ride suspension included. The mainland leg runs the standard Spanish route: Portsmouth or Southampton on the Brittany Ferries crossing to Santander or Bilbao, then enclosed road haulage south through Burgos and east through the Spanish interior to Valencia or Denia. From the mainland port the car loads directly onto the inter-island ferry to Ibiza Town, operated by Trasmediterránea or Baleària depending on the sailing, for the overnight Mediterranean crossing. The onward ferry is booked inside the same consignment so the car does not wait at a quay for the next available berth.
The Ibizan onward leg from the port to your villa is handled by an island haulier we work with on every Balearic shipment, with the hand-over inspection mirroring the UK record. The mainland customs release is supplied to the ferry operator before sailing, so the car arrives at Ibiza Town free to be released without further declaration.

Villa-side delivery — Talamanca, Cala Llonga, Santa Eulalia
Ibiza’s high-net-worth set lives in the hills, not on the harbour. The bulk of our island volume goes to the eastern and north-eastern coast: the villa cluster above Santa Eulalia and Cala Llonga, the gated estates around San Lorenzo and San Carlos, and the residential corridor running from Talamanca up towards Marina Botafoch. The west-coast set runs lighter but concentrated in Cala Salada, Cala Tarida and the southern villas around Es Cubells and Las Salinas. Cars are delivered to the gate, the residents’ garage or the marina bay you nominate.
The island access patterns shape the timing. Mid-summer arrivals into Santa Eulalia and Talamanca need a delivery window worked around the morning beach traffic and the evening San Antonio run. Villa deliveries above San Carlos need the access gates opened by the property manager and the onward driveway cleared of the rental car. We brief the client or representative on the timing window two to three days before the ferry arrives, and the onward haulier confirms a tighter slot once the ferry berths in Ibiza Town.
Customs, temporary admission and the seasonal return run
Every UK-origin car clears EU import formalities on arrival at Santander or Bilbao, handled by our named Spanish broker. That clearance reference is then supplied to the inter-island ferry operator before the Ibiza sailing, so no additional declaration is required for the Balearic leg itself. See our European customs guide for how temporary admission and permanent import work.
Most Ibiza shipments are seasonal rather than permanent: the car ships out in May or June under temporary admission and returns to the UK in September or October. We strongly recommend booking the return run alongside the outbound shipment. The September queue back from the Balearics to the mainland is the tightest squeeze of the year, with limited ferry capacity and a sharp concentration of clients ending their summer at the same time.
At hand-over on the island, the document pack covers the cleared customs release, the bill of lading, the mainland and island pre-shipment inspection records with photographs, and the final hand-over inspection at your villa mirroring the UK record. The whole pack is also emailed.
